Box Office Battle: 'Toy Story 4' wins weekend with $118M debut

"Box Office Battle" is The Fly's weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend's box office.

In one of the biggest openings of all time for an animated movie, Pixar and Disney's (DIS) "Toy Story 4" won the North American box office over the weekend with $118M. Overseas, the movie launch to $120M for a $238M globally, a record for the genre. "Toy Story 4" received 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, while sporting an A CinemaScore.

BOX OFFICE RUNNERS-UP: United Artists' "Child's Play," a remake of the film about a doll named Chucky, came in second, grossing $14.1M from 3,007 locations. Behind it was Disney's "Aladdin," earning $12.2M in its fifth weekend for a domestic cume of $287.5M. Sony's (SNE) "Men in Black: International" placed number four with $10.8M in its second outing for a domestic total of $52M. Rounding out the top five, Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal's "The Secret Life of Pets 2" posted another $10.3M for a domestic cume of $129.4M and $194.2M worldwide.
